I was contacted a few months ago by some motivated individuals who were members of the Oracle RAC SIG. They wanted to start a new local Oracle user group in their region of Northern India and were looking for advice. I offered a few pointers and recently, they launched the new group – North India Oracle Users Group at nioug.org.

If you are in Northern India or have colleagues or friends that are located there, you should check out this group. If you would like to get involved by coordinating a meeting, being a speaker, or helping in any way, I’d encourage you to contact one of the individuals listed on the Board of Directors to see how you can help as a volunteer. They’re allowing registration for free (at least for now) too.

They’ve also established a blog to publish upcoming news on events and happenings with the group. It has an RSS feed, so you may want to subscribe to easily track the new posts there.

Good luck to all the volunteers and the new group!

  1. Dan,
Thanks a ton for the guidance n
immense motivation.Hope we would be able to contribute
a little to oracle community by this initiative.
    Many thanks once again.

Not sure if you are aware, there is already an Oracle users group in India, they have already hosted two user group meetings. I had attended both the meetings and was an excellent start. Their website also looks pretty informative. Not sure if Aman is aware of this group or not, he should check this out. Maybe this is all he is looking for and can join and support this group instead of starting another one.

Aman, the website address for the user group in India is http://www.aioug.org

    Regards

  3. Hi Unni,

I thought there was at least one more group there and I'm surprised that the founders of this new group didn't first make contact with you. Sounds like there's a good reason to work together and I encourage both groups to reach out and find ways to work together. If it's not appropriate to combine them (I know India is a large enough place for more than one group), at least co-marketing each others' events and working closely to ensure that you minimize duplication would be a good start.

Thanks for posting here–hopefully, the other interested groups can find one another and create a stronger, local community for Oracle professionals in India.
