OOW, Day 4 (Wednesday)

I tried to sleep a little later this morning after being up a little bit later than usual last night. Didn’t really work–still up too early, but I guess I’ll sleep next week instead.

I met up with Jake from oracleappslab.com fame for a late breakfast. After that, I parked myself in the Piocon booth for a while and caught up with my guys on what sessions they’ve been attending and how the booth has been working out.

I didn’t get to any sessions before lunch today. Grabbed lunch quickly before heading to the Dell/Ellison keynotes. The Dell keynote was a lot about products coming up. I’m not sure quite what I was expecting, but I guess I felt like it was a little too much of a pitch to really enjoy it. After Michael Dell finished, there was a pause while they did set changes.

Larry’s keynote started with a quick review of their status with Oracle Enterprise Linux and the new announcement with Oracle VM. Following those brief announcements, he reviewed the status of Oracle Fusion Applications which (I think) are the next evolution of all the Oracle Applications components: Sales, Financials, HR, etc. They will release the applications an application at a time, as they are ready. The first ones will be Sales Force Automation and we are to expect them in the first half of 2008.

I then attended the RAC performance tuning session by Barb and Michael (from Oracle). It was in a huge room (Moscone South 104) and had good attendance. As Barb admitted, the presentation was similar to last year’s, but with updates for 11g enhancements. As usual, Barb and Michael did a great job.

Wrapped up the day in the exhibit hall checking out some vendor booths and chatting with a few of the folks at Oracle Demogrounds before heading to dinner and the concert at Cow Palace.
